Captain Amarinder Singh has been the CM of Punjab for two terms. He had a tenure of about 9 and a half years as Chief Minister. Last year, 3 months before the elections, Congress removed him from the CM's chair. After which the Captain formed a new party in the name of 'Punjab Lok Congress'. Then contested the election in alliance with BJP, but along with his candidate, the Captain himself lost. BJP also got only 2 seats. However, this defeat is being linked to the desire of the people of Punjab to change from the traditional parties.
