Cabinet restores Dearness Allowance (DA) for central govt employees and pensioners, increasing it to 28% from 17% from July, according to Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday. The move comes amid various media sources predicting that the Seventh Central Pay Commission (7th CPC) DA and Dearness Relief (DR) perks would be reinstated in July. Further, this will provide a cash boost to hundreds of thousands of central government employees and pensioners, allowing them to spend more during the next holiday season.
Last year, the administration imposed a moratorium on DA and DR (Dearness Relief) increases until July 2021.
The decision was made during the first in-person meeting of the Union Cabinet in over a year, which was convened on Wednesday at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official residence. The meeting takes place prior to Parliament's Monsoon Session.
