Bumrah And Shami Restrict England, Indian openers look Solid On Day One Of First Test Match In England

New Delhi: Indian Fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohhamed Shami and Shardul Thakur bowled brilliantly and restrict England to 183 runs in the first innings on day one of the first Test match here at Nottingham. Captain Joe Root scored solid 64 runs as England, soon after the Tea break, lost control,  as pacers took six wickets by giving away just 45 runs. It was unbelievable because England was in a very sound position with 138 for 4, at Tea.  Bumrah was the most successful bowler and took four wickets for 46 runs, Shami gets three wickets for just 28 runs and shardul’s figure reads 2 for 41.

In reply, India started off well and did not lose a wicket. At stumps, on Day, one Indian team was 21 for no loss in 13 overs, still behind 162 runs. Openers Rohit Sharma (batting 9) and K L Rahul (batting 9) were at the crease. Both Indian batsmen faced England’s pace attack with confidence during the 50 minutes of stay in the last session. Rohit two and Rahul hit one boundary.

Earlier England won the toss and decided to bat first on a seaming pitch, where bowlers were enjoying to see the ball swinging and seaming making it difficult for batsmen to score runs. Indian captain Virat Kohli decided to play four fast bowlers and not included Off-spinner R Ashwin.

Indian team has conquered Australia twice over the last decade but has managed to win just two of the 14 Tests they have played in England. They have drawn one and lost 12.

Brief Score:

England First Innings: 183 All Out  (Joe  Root 65, Jonny Bairstow 29, Zak Crawley 27, Sam Curran not out 27. Jasprit Bumrah 4/46, Mohammed Shami 3/28, Shardul Thakur 2/42, Siraj1/48).

India First Innings: 21 for no loss (Rohit Sharma batting 9, K L Rahul batting 9).
