In his address in Shillong, Meghalaya, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, “We have concluded the NEC meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi. Prime Minister Modi has not only appreciated the work of NEC but has also prepared a road map for the development of the region. “Earlier, the budget was allocated for the Northeast, but it was not implemented,” he said. With many changes after PM Modi came to power, the budget has reached the villages today and it can be seen turning into real work. This is a great achievement.
He said, "If you compare the Northeast that existed eight years ago qand the Northeast that exists today, you will find that after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister for the first time, the Northeast is on the path of peace and development." Incidents of attacks on security personnel have come down by 60%. As far as civilian deaths are concerned, it has reduced by 89% and around 8,000 youths have surrendered and chosen to join the mainstream. This is a big achievement of PM Narendra Modi.
He said, “Today, 60 per cent of Assam is AFSPA free. The limits of 15 police stations in 6 districts of Manipur are now AFSPA free. In Arunachal Pradesh, only one district is covered under AFSPA. In Nagaland, it has been removed from 7 districts and in Tripura and Meghalaya, AFSPA has been completely removed.
