British lawmaker David Amess has been stabbed 17 times, according to The Sun citing two female staff. The 69-year-old Tory leader was speaking to voters at a church in the small town of LeighonSea, east London, when the incident occurred.
Amess died instantly, The Sun reported. The Sun also said in its report that the assailant, a 25-year-old British citizen of Somali descent, was sitting calmly and awaiting the arrival of the cops. “We know he stabbed David and waited for the police. He was completely premeditated. He knew he would, ”Councilor Daniel Nelson said.
Police are investigating the incident as a terrorist incident and MPs are calling for more safety following the second murder of a British politician at an election rally in just over five years. Police said the investigation was only in its "early stages".
In June 2016, Labor MP Jo Cox was killed by a far-right extremist, sparking calls to action against what lawmakers have called a "rising tide" of public abuse and threats against elected officials.
