Five people were killed and around 30 injured in an explosion in Pakistan's restive Balochistan province on Tuesday. The blast took place in Sibi district of the province. Earlier on Friday, 63 people were killed and around 200 were injured in a suicide bombing at a Shia mosque in Peshawar.
The Counter-Terrorism Department (SIBI) said the blast appeared to be a suicide attack. The explosion took place in the open space near the cold road where the fair is being held. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. The province's chief minister, Mir Abdul Quddus Bijenjo, condemned the attack and directed officials to provide medical facilities to those injured in the blast.
Balochistan, adjacent to the Afghanistan and Iran border, is battling violence. Baloch insurgents have carried out several attacks targeting the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project and security personnel in the region.
