BJP Wayanad Candidate Faces 242 Cases, 237 Linked to Sabarimala Protests: Insights Revealed

BJP Wayanad Candidate Faces 242 Cases: There are 242 criminal cases against BJP state chief K Surendran, who is also running against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency.
The party mouthpiece recently published Surendran's cases in three pages as part of the statutory requirements.
K S Radhakrishnan, the saffron party's candidate in the Ernakulam constituency, has 211 cases against him as well.
"Most of the cases are related to Sabarimala protests which were held in 2018. Most of the cases are in court. When party leaders call for a strike or a protest, the police register a case in connection with that," George Kurian, the state general secretary of the BJP told PTI.
The details of the cases against candidates must be published, according to him.
As a result of the cases against Surendran, Radhakrishnan, the party's Alappuzha candidate Shobha Surendran, and Vatakara candidate Praful Krishna, BJP national general secretary B L Santhosh tweeted on Friday that it is hard to be a nationalist in some parts of Bharath. "It's hard to be a nationalist in some parts of Bharath. Everyday struggle. But it's worth it. The C7 of Sri @surendranbjp, WAYANAD candidate. One person...Hundreds of cases," Santhosh posted on X.
Kurian said 237 of the cases against the BJP state chief were related to Sabarimala protests, while five cases related to various agitations in Kerala.
In 2018, the BJP and affiliated parties protested statewide against the Kerala government's implementation of the Supreme Court's ruling on women's access to Sabarimala shrine in Pathanamthitta.
Nominations for the Lok Sabha elections must be filed by April 4. Scrutiny will take place on April 5, while nominations may be withdrawn until April 8.
A total of 18 nominations have been received by the Election Commission as of today, including Left candidate Mukesh from Kollam and BJP candidate Ashwini M L from Kasaragod.
Other party candidates' cases have yet to be disclosed.
