BJP Calls for 'Stringent Action' Against Rahul Gandhi Following EVM Remark

BJP Calls for Stringent Action Against Rahul Gandhi: In response to Rahul Gandhi's claim that elections cannot be won without EVMs, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wrote to the Election Commission (ED) on Monday.

In response to Rahul Gandhi's speech at the Ramalia rally in Delhi, BJP stated that Rahul Gandhi said several things "which are very objectionable". "Today, we presented several issues before the EC...One, yesterday's INDIA alliance meeting was held at Ramlila Maidan."

"He said 'This is a fixed match'...He also said that the government has its own people in the EC and the elections can't be won without EVM...He also said that the rights provided by the Indian Constitution are being snatched away," Hardeep Singh Puri said while lashing out at the Congress.

At the rally, Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of "match-fixing" in the Lok Sabha elections, saying that tampering with the Constitution would have serious repercussions if the BJP won.

According to Gandhi, the BJP's slogan "400 pairs" (crossing 400 seats) is unattainable without match fixing, and that the prime minister has appointed "umpires" to facilitate it.

Retorting to Rahul Gandhi's remark that if BJP returns to power the Constitution would be abandoned, Puri said, "We don't know which worker said that...He also posted on 'X' and 'Instagram' an image of PM Modi and alleged that the PM said that he will give his life to save rapists...Such a low-level political discourse. We can understand his frustration. His INDI alliance is breaking. We told the Election Commission that mere notice is not enough, stringent action needs to be taken."

In a speech at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, the former Congress chief said this was not an ordinary election, but one to save the country's democracy and constitution.

During a political rally at the Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on March 31, 2024, Rahul Gandhi spread disinformation, distributing utter lies in violation of the law of the land, healthy democratic conventions, and Model Code of Conduct [MCC], and attempted to cause disaffection against the impartiality of elections and the authenticity of EVMs.

Furthermore, they asked the Election Commission to direct Rahul Gandhi to publicly apologize to the nation, the Election Commission of India, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making false allegations and distortions.

According to their letter, Rahul Gandhi and Yatindra Siddaramiah should be investigated under strict law provisions. In a speech delivered at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on Sunday, Rahul Gandhi warned, "If the BJP wins these match-fixed elections and changes the Constitution, the whole country will be on fire. Keep this in mind."

Moreover, Rahul Gandhi accused PM Modi of trying to fix the elections in his favor. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to fix these elections," he said. "They cannot win more than 180 seats without EVMs, match-fixing, social media, and pressurizing the press," Wayanad MP said. In addition, he said that if the BJP wins the Lok Sabha polls, the Constitution will cease to exist.

Demonstrating their strength at Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, Opposition leaders protested the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over the Delhi liquor policy case.
