Bihar News: JDU national executive meeting begins today.
The meeting of the National Executive and National Council of JDU is being held at a time when the talk of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar becoming the prime ministerial face of a united opposition for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections is in full swing.
Nitish Kumar, who broke the alliance with the BJP in Bihar and formed the government with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has now started churning within the party. In the two-day meeting of Janata Dal-United (JDU) starting on Saturday, apart from collectively taking on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the issues of inflation and unemployment may figure prominently. The meeting of the National Executive and National Council of JDU is being held at a time when the talk of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar becoming the prime ministerial face of a united opposition for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections is in full swing.
Hoarding slogans put up by the party at the meeting venue hinted at pitting Nitish against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, they do not directly mention the BJP leader. Notably, no major party in Bihar, except its ally Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has so far supported such a call (making Nitish the face of the Prime Minister's post).
JDU may also focus on the need to unite the opposition in its meeting. JDU national general secretary Afaq Ahmed Khan said that around 110 party leaders from across the country, including the presidents of its 26 state units, would attend the national executive meeting on Saturday. More than 250 party leaders will attend the National Council meeting on Sunday. Khan said Nitish is expected to address the conference on both the days.
