Big relief to Satyendra Jain from Delhi High Court, proceedings in Benami property case closed
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi government minister Satyendar Jain got a big relief from the Delhi High Court on Monday in the case of benami property.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi government minister Satyendar Jain got a big relief from the Delhi High Court on Monday in the case of benami property. According to the order of the Supreme Court, the High Court has closed the proceedings against Jain under the Benami Act. Jain is currently lodged in jail for money laundering.
A bench of Justice Yashwant Verma passed the order while hearing several petitions filed by Jain and others against initiation of proceedings under the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amendment Act, 2016. The High Court had earlier on September 20 said that no action (coercive or otherwise) should be taken against Jain under the amended Benami Act.
The court noted that the Income Tax Department had given a statement in another case that though it was taking the course of legal remedy against the Supreme Court's decision on the law, no action would be taken against the petitioner side. In August, the Supreme Court had said that the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amendment Act, 2016 would not apply to cases before it came into force.
