Biden administration wants India to take a "clear position" on Russia-Ukraine War

The current Joe Biden government in the United States of America has requested the Indian government to take a clear stand on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
The US lawmakers have criticised India as it didn’t participate in the voting at the United Nations and abstained from the process. The voting took place to take Russia to task after its military operation against Ukraine. India was one of the 35 nations which didn’t take any stand and abstained from voting.
The US government didn’t like it and now it wants the government to take a clear stand.
US diplomat Donald Lu explained the reasons why India abstained from the voting process. Lu said, "India has focused on two things when trying to explain its position, one that it continues to want to leave on the table the possibility of a diplomatic resolution of this conflict.”
“The second thing that they emphasize is India has 18,000 students still in Ukraine, and they are trying to work with both the Governments of Ukraine and Russia to safeguard those," he added further.
Lu said that they are working to urge India to take a clear position, a position opposed to Russia's actions.
He said, "The State Department continues to engage India closely to underscore the importance of a collective response and condemning Russia's invasion.”
"So we're making small steps and assure you we are on this and working every day to make sure that we are trying to close the gap between where we are and where our Indian partners are," he added.
