BCCI Urged to Protect Vaibhav Suryavanshi Like Tendulkar, Avoid Another Kambli or Prithvi Shaw Downfall

BCCI Urged to Protect Vaibhav Suryavanshi: A 14-year-old cricketing prodigy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, is rapidly capturing the imagination of the cricketing world with his extraordinary skill.

Indian Premier League has provided us with an incredible player. He shocked everyone with his 35-ball century in his third appearance in the league, and rewrote the records.

Chappell has issued a big warning to BCCI about managing Vaibhav, giving examples of Vinod Kambli and Prithvi Shaw.

Chappell notes that Tendulkar's success stemmed not only from his talent but also from a solid support system. "He had a calm demeanour, a wise mentor, and a family that protected him from distractions," Chappell points out. In contrast, Vinod Kambli, who demonstrated equal or even greater flair, faced difficulties maintaining discipline amid stardom, leading to a decline in his career.

“Sachin Tendulkar succeeded as a teenager not simply due to talent but because of a solid support system – a stoic temperament, a wise coach, a family that protected him from the circus," Chappell wrote in his column for ESPNCricinfo.

“It is incumbent on the cricketing ecosystem – the BCCI, the franchises, mentors, and the media – to protect him. Talent can’t be bubble-wrapped, but it can be provided a buffer. It must be guided, not glorified; nurtured, not just marketed,” he said.

“On the other hand, Vinod Kambli, equally talented and perhaps more flamboyant, struggled to balance fame and discipline. His fall was as dramatic as his rise. Prithvi Shaw is another wunderkind who has fallen but may yet find a way back to the pinnacle," Chappell added.

Chappell also reflected on the career of Prithvi Shaw, another young player from Mumbai, who showed great promise from an early age.

Prithvi Shaw also saw a similar downfall in his career. He led the Under-19 team to the World Cup, but currently, he is not included in the senior team. Shaw was believed to be the future of the Indian Cricket Team, but the indiscipline, fitness concerns, and off-field controversy led to his downfall.
