During the survey, it has come to know that BBC Group has tried to save tax by showing less income. The Income Tax Department has made a big claim regarding the IT survey in the offices of British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) located in Mumbai-Delhi. The Income Tax Department said that after a three-day survey, some irregularities regarding international tax have been detected in the BBC offices. The Income Tax Department had conducted a survey under Section 133A of the Income Tax Act at the BBC offices in Delhi and Mumbai. During the survey, it has come to know that BBC Group has tried to save tax by showing less income. During the survey, the department collected the evidence related to the operation of the organization. It is clear from them that there were many sources of profit made through foreign units of BBC, on which due tax was not paid in India.
Weeks after the British public broadcaster aired a documentary on PM Modi and the 2002 Gujarat riots, the Income Tax Department alleged that the income and profits declared by various BBC units "were not commensurate with the scale of operations in India". The BBC has not yet responded to the allegations.
There are many such employees present abroad and in the country, whose payment was made by the Indian unit, but tax was not paid on that also. All these financial irregularities have been revealed on the basis of the statements of BBC employees, digital evidence and documents. These statements have been recorded of top level employees, officers and employees associated with finance, content development and production. Earlier on Thursday, the Income Tax Department (IT) survey at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) offices in Delhi and Mumbai was completed after 60 hours. The IT team started the survey at BBC offices at 11:30 am on Tuesday, which ended late on Thursday night. The IT team left the BBC offices late at 11 pm.
