Baramulla Encounter: Terrorist Killed, 2 Soldiers Dead in Kishtwar Before PM Modi’s Visit to Kashmir

In Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, three terrorists were gunned down in an operation involving the security forces while the Indian Army lost two of its soldiers in an operation in Kishtwar yesterday.

Baramulla Encounter: In the morning today in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, three terrorists were gunned down in an operation involving the security forces while the Indian Army lost two of its soldiers in an operation in Kishtwar yesterday, reported PTI.

The search operation which is still continuing in the area of Baramulla district particularly Chak Taper Kreeri Pattan after an operation was carried out in Chak Tapper Kreeri in the Pattan region late on Friday night.

The terrorists opened fire on a search party of the forces and the latter also fired back as per a police official. Three terrorists were gunned down during a early morning shoot out on Saturday.

The police official speaking to PTI said that the identity as well as the motive of the dead terrorists had not been identified yet.

The encounter began hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi is due to begin his poll campaign for BJP candidates on Saturday with a public meeting in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, where security measures have been stepped up. PM Modi’s visit to Doda will be the first of a prime minister in the last 42-years.

In view of the successful holding of Doda-Kisthwar election rally at the stadium in Doda town, multi-tier security has been provided throughout the two districts including the venue.

The Kashmir Zone Police in a post on X said, “Encounter has started at Chak Tapper Kreeri Pattan area of Baramulla. Police and security forces are on the job and further details shall follow.”

Jammu and Kashmir-based Chinar Corps of the Indian Army said that the joint operation between forces and the Jammu and Kashmir Police started after getting special intelligence about the terrorists in the region.

One day earlier, in Kishtwar, two soldiers of Indian Army were killed while two others got injured in a militancy related incident.

Police and army had cordoned and searched in Naidgham area in Chhatroo belt which connects Kishtwar with Anantnag district in South Kashmir when injured seoy Arvind Singh and junior commissioned officer Naib Subedar Vipan Kumar were injured in a firing.

The two soldiers died shortly after the incidence while the other two injured soldiers were evacuated to an Army hospital from the nearest local hospital in a Chinook helicopter.

The White Knight Corps confirmed the deaths on X, saying, “GOC (General Officer Commanding) White Knight Corps and all ranks salute the supreme sacrifice of the bravehearts; offer deepest condolences to the families.”

The vice-president of the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir, Ravinder Sharma also added in a statement that the BJP was at fault for the state of terrorism, “The Congress strongly condemns the terrorist attack.... The BJP government has utterly failed to deal with terrorism, which has revived in the Jammu region after two decades.”
