The Assembly Secretary says that after his conviction yesterday, his disqualification had automatically ended. That is, according to the law, he cannot continue on the post of MLA. Speaker has announced that Rampur seat will be vacant today.

Uttar Pradesh's Rampur Court on Thursday sentenced Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan to three years' imprisonment in the hate speech case. Along with this, he will also have to pay a fine of 25 thousand rupees. Earlier, the court had convicted him of hate speech. He was taken into court custody only after being proved guilty. During the election in the year 2019, Azam Khan gave a speech in Tehsil Milak, regarding which the court's decision came yesterday.

On 7 April 2019, Mohammad Azam Khan, the joint candidate of Rampur's Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party, made many serious allegations against several administrative officials posted in Rampur and Prime Minister Narendra Modi while giving a speech in his election meeting. Taking cognizance of his speech, the Election Commission took action and an FIR was lodged by the in-charge of the Election Commission's video team. The decision in this matter came on Thursday. A case was registered against Azam Khan in serious cases like making inflammatory speeches and spreading hatred.
