The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare celebrates the Universal Health Coverage Day on December 12.
Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, held an event and made several important announcements on this day which will be crucial for a robust health care system in the country.
He said that the Covid-19 pandemic has enhanced the need for a resilient health care system in which everyone should have equal access to the healthcare facilities in the country.
Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, also joined the Health Minister in the event virtually from Patna.
On this occasion, 153 primary healthcare workers engaged in providing health facilities were felicitated for their exemplary services in dispensing services.
The Health Minister also released the 5thNational Family Health Survey (NFHS) for seventeen States and five Union Territories in the country.
Advocating the need for a strong health care system in India, he said, “We must do away with the status quo that got us here, and settle for nothing less than strong health systems that protect everyone — now and in the future. It has been my long-standing belief that India has the ability to deliver to the world, a robust model for providing Universal Health Coverage.”
He praised the efforts made by the Prime Minister in launching the 'Ayushman Bharat' program.
The Minister said, “The over-arching 'Ayushman Bharat' program launched in 2018 has completely revolutionized primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare system in the country, with a strong focus on preventive healthcare.”
