Ashwin Surpasses Wasim Akram: Ashwin breaks Akram's record, now preparing to beat Bhajji

Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin of the Indian cricket team has surpassed the record of Pakistan legend Wasim Akram. Ashwin has taken 416 wickets in Test cricket. With this, Ashwin surpassed Akram's record of 414 wickets.Former Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram took 414 wickets in 104 Test matches. Ashwin, playing the 80th Test match of his career, left Akram behind by dismissing Kyle Jamieson at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur against New Zealand.

Ashwin made the Kiwi team's opener Will Young, Jamieson and William Somerville his prey. Ashwin is at number 14 in the list of bowlers with the most wickets in the longest format of cricket.Left-arm spinner Axar Patel's five-wicket haul helped India take a 49-run lead by dismissing New Zealand for 296 in the first innings on the third day of the Kanpur Test on Saturday. However, in the second innings, the hosts lost the wicket of opener Shubman Gill early. At the end of the third day's play, India's score was 14 runs for one wicket and Team India's total lead has become 63 runs.

Gill fell victim to Kyle Jamieson on the score of one in the second over. Cheteshwar Pujara was playing on nine and Mayank Agarwal scored four runs. The third day's play was in the name of the Indian bowlers. New Zealand's score was 196 for one wicket at one time but later 9 wickets fell within 100 runs.Axar had put New Zealand under pressure in the second session by bowling well. He also took two wickets in the last session. The credit for getting India back in the match goes to Umesh Yadav, who brought relief to the hosts by cheaply dismissing Kane Williamson just before lunch. Akshar took five wickets for 62 runs in 34 overs.
