Top government sources said the approval was given at a meeting of the Defense Ministry held on Monday morning. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh presided over the meeting. According to news agency ANI, the army will now use these powers to procure critical weapon systems under the fast-track route.
The supply will be made within three months to one year. For this, the armed forces will have to spend money from their budgetary allocation and they will not need to seek the approval of the Ministry of Defense for these deals. In the past also the army has been given emergency powers and through these they have strengthened their preparedness.
