A high-stress, violent showdown occurred during a federal immigration raid on a cannabis farm in Camarillo, California, when an anti-ICE protester was claimed to have pulled out a firearm and threatened the federal agents. The outrageous act that occurred under a wider immigration crackdown has generated a wave of social media outrage.
The confrontation intensifies pressure on the California Governor Gavin Newsom who has already suffered due to the stress caused by mass deportation raids in the state. Newsom is being criticized by the netizens over his failure to speak up on the rising violence, especially following the account that the number of attacks on ICE agents has risen almost seven hundred percent as compared to the preceding year.

FBI manhunt starts over armed clash with federal agents
The federal raid was aimed at an expansive cannabis operation in Southern Californian which was suspected to have employed undocumented immigrants. In the course of the operation being undertaken by the agents, a protester allegedly took out a gun forcing the federal officers to react immediately. Tensions with demonstrators flared to the extent that crowd control measures which included tear gas were adopted. Some people were arrested and another one was pinned down.
The FBI is on a man hunt of the armed suspect and is also offering a reward on information that would lead to an arrest.
After the event, the outrage was blown up by other influential social media accounts like Libs of TikTok, who referred specifically to Governor Newsom as a response was needed. Several internet users have been angry on why according to them Newsom, does not appear to show interest in dealing with the increasing violence towards federal agents. The Department of Homeland Security reported that, this year, 79 assaults on ICE officers have been reported (compared to ten in the same months a year ago). Nevertheless, Newsom has kept remarking that the raids themselves are inhumane, thus directing the liability to the federal policies, without letting the hits on the law enforcement manifest.

Gavin Newsom’s response and the Jan. 6 comparison
Surrounded by increasing demands to act over the violent showdown during the ICE raid, California Governor Gavin Newsom took to end his silence through an extremely tough response on social media:
“Of course I condemn any assault on law enforcement, you shit poster. Now do Jan 6.”
Of course I condemn any assault on law enforcement, you shit poster.

Now do Jan 6. https://t.co/7DBFqGVQS1
The comment was directed to conservative critics who criticized his perceived softness on the issue of violence. Newsom refers to January 6 the day when a group of Trump supporters with violence stormed the U.S. Capitol in 2021. As Donald Trump has returned to the White House, the cue to January 6 was also used by Newsom to accuse some of the outcry that he perceives as only selective.
