The last rites of Ankita Bhandari are being performed at NIT ghat in Srinagar, Pauri Garwhal as of now. She was allegedly murdered in Rishikesh by now expelled BJP leader Vinod Arya's son Pulkit Arya who was arrested yesterday.
People's anger is on the rise for the third consecutive day over the death of receptionist Ankita Bhandari at the resort of a former minister's son in Uttarakhand. Hundreds of people are protesting in Ankita's home town Srinagar with her photo. Due to this, the Badrinath-Rishikesh highway has been blocked. Here, Ankita's body was taken out of the mortuary and taken to the crematorium for the last rites. The last rites will be performed in Srinagar itself.
The protesters tried to stop the ambulance while carrying the body. A woman lay down in front of the ambulance and was then removed by the police. After this Ankita's father appealed to the people gathered outside the mortuary, after which the crowd started to disperse. At the same time, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the matter will be heard in the fast-track court.
According to the postmortem report, Ankita died due to drowning in the water. He was thrashed with some heavy object before being pushed. Injuries were also found on his body. There is no mention of sexual abuse or rape in the report. Unhappy with this report, Ankita's family had earlier refused to perform the last rites. However, later the police negotiated and convinced the family for the last rites.
