Anil Ambani, chairman of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, on Friday resigned as the director of Reliance Power and Reliance Infrastructure. Earlier, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) had barred Anil Ambani from joining any listed company in the stock exchanges.
Reliance Power said in a BSE filing, non-executive Anil Ambani has stepped down as a director of the company in compliance with the interim order of SEBI. Reliance Infrastructure also told the stock exchange that Anil Ambani has stepped down from the company's board of directors following the interim order of SEBI.
SEBI had banned Reliance Home Ltd, industrialist Anil Ambani and three others from the securities market for allegedly extorting money. Both the ADG group companies said the boards of directors of Reliance Power and Reliance Infrastructure on Friday appointed Rahul Sarin as an additional director for a tenure of five years as an independent director. However, this appointment is currently subject to the approval of the members in the general meeting.
