Will BJP get the benefits of repealing farm laws in the forthcoming Punjab election?
The party is at present busy making alliances with other political parties such as Punjab Lok Congress (PLC), a party floated by the former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh after leaving the Indian National Congress, and leaders of the Akali Dal.
As all the political parties are gearing up for the forthcoming assembly elections in Punjab in the coming year, a big question is, “Will Bhartiya Janata Party have any benefit of repealing the three farm laws?”
The party is at present busy making alliances with other political parties such as Punjab Lok Congress (PLC), a party floated by the former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh after leaving the Indian National Congress, and leaders of the Akali Dal.
After Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) left BJP on the issues of the three farm laws, it is trying to poach as many prominent faces of the state as possible to brighten its prospects in the coming election.
However many farm leaders and local politicians believe that the scrapping of the farms will not make any difference on the party’s fortune. They say that farmers will never support or vote for the party in the coming election as they believe that the government has taken the right decision but after a lot of delays.
“Look, the decision is quite satisfactory but this is not going to translate into votes because farmers have suffered a lot. We have protested for one full year and over 700 farmers have lost their lives,” a farmer, who had returned to Amritsar after protesting at Singhu border, said.
Another farmer seconded with him and said, “We believe that we forced the government to repeal the laws. The government hasn’t done it on its own. They would have never done it had we not protested for so long. So where is the question of casting our votes for such a party?
