Who is Viatina? The World’s Most Expensive Cow, Valued at Rs 40 Crore
Who is Viatina: A 'very expensive' cow could cost more than Rs 40 crore. Recently, a Nelore cow became the world's most expensive cow ever sold at a Brazilian auction.
Brazil auctioned off a Nelore cow named Viatina-19 FIV Mara Imóveis for 4.8 million USD (Rs 40 crore INR).
The sale of Viatina not only highlights her individual value but also the potential of her genetic material to create a new standard in the global cattle industry.
There was an auction in Arand, So Paulo, Brazil, where a one-third share of the 4.5-year-old cow went for 6.99 million reals, or $1.44 million.
One of Brazil's most important cattle breeds is the Nelore breed, originally from India and named after the Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh.
Approximately a hundred Ongole cattle were imported into Brazil in the 1960s, laying the foundation for the breed's growth in Brazil. The rest, as they say, is history.
In the previous year, she had half her ownership sold for approximately 800,000 USD, which brought her total value to 4.3 million USD.
In addition to adaptability to hot climates, disease resistance, and meat quality, the Nelore breed is scientifically known as Bos indicus. Tropical areas value these cattle for their strength, resilience, and ability to thrive in tough conditions.
Having been selectively bred to enhance her genetic advantages, this Nelore cow, Viatina-19 FIV Mara Imóveis, epitomizes these traits.
Nelore cattle also convert forage into meat efficiently, outperforming other breeds in this regard.
