“On February 12, 2022, a complaint was received from Manoj Kumar in which he stated that while he was standing at a petrol pump and talking on his mobile phone, in the welcome area, two persons on a motorcycle reached there. After refuelling, the pillion rider snatched his mobile phone and they fled the spot,” Sanjay Kumar Sain, DCP, North-East District, New Delhi, said.
He added, “Accordingly, on his complaint, a case was registered and the investigation was taken up. During the course of the investigation, on the basis of scanning and analysis of CCTV footages of the nearby vicinity, the police team comprising SI Dharambir, ASI Devender, HC Amit and Const. Mukesh trailed the escape route of snatchers and managed to identify them through local intelligence.”
On February 13, on the basis of secret information, a trap was laid near Idgah Pulia, Welcome, at around 9:50 PM on the instance of the informer. Two persons riding Motorcycle No. DL-3SEN-3593, Splendor was apprehended. During the search, the snatched mobile phone was recovered from them.
On examination, their identity was established as Mohd. Shahrukh, resident of Welcome. The motorcycle they were riding, was found to be used in the commission of the crime. They confessed their crime and revealed their involvement in other cases also. On further interrogation, Shahrukh was previously found involved in four cases of snatching/burglary/theft and robbery. Further investigation into the case is in progress.
