Virat Kohli: Only India captain to win series in all three formats in Australia
Virat Kohli has emerged as the only Indian captain to date who have earned series victories in all three formats of cricket matches – test match, one-day international, and T20.
Virat Kohli has emerged as the only Indian captain to date who have earned series victories in all three formats of cricket matches – test match, one-day international, and T20.
He set this record on December 6 after India defeated Australia in the second T20 in Sydney. India has taken a 2-0 lead in an ongoing three-match T20 series.
After winning the second T20, Kohli congratulated the team and posted a message on his Twitter handle, “Amazing game of cricket. Well done boys”.
Though India lost the one-day international series by 2-1, however, its performance in T20 has been praiseworthy as it has won both the matches convincingly after the team made an all-round performance.
In international cricket, there are only two captains today – Virat Kohli and South Africa's Faf du Plessis – who have won the series in all the three formats of cricket in Australia. Kohli is the only Indian captain.
In 2018-19, when India had toured Australia, under Kohli’s captaincy it won the test series in Australia for the first time. Not only that, India had defeated Australia in the one-day international series too.
However, the two-match T20 series was tied as both the team had won one match each.
This is for the first time that Australia has lost the T20 series against India in 2020.
The rare honour has come to Kohli at a time when his paternity leave has raised many eyebrows.
The BCCI has granted him a paternity leave and he will leave the tour after the first test match in Adelaide.
