Varanasi Administration Shuts Meat Shops for ‘Saawan’ Amid Kanwar Yatra Issues

Shravan Shivratri is a holy Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Shiva in the month of Sawaan. He is worshipped by all the followers of the Hindu religion and this month is famous for Kanwar Yatra where devotees bring Ganga Jal and offer it to Shiva on the day of Shiv Ratri.
The Varanasi Municipal Corporation in order has asked to keep the meat shops in the city to be closed for the month of Sawaan. The decision was taken to prevent any inconvenience to Kanwariyas. The order was finalized by the executive committee led by the mayor of Varanasi Sandeep Srivastava.

Following the footsteps of Varanasi now Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh asked the meat shops to be closed in parts of their state. The Municipal Commissioner has instructed the official to make sure that these shops remain closed throughout the month. The first offense will be fined Rs 2000 but if found not obeying the order the owner will be fined Rs 5000 every time he is caught obeying the rules.
The shop owners have been ordered to display their names and mobile numbers by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. And along with these cities, Ujjain too is issuing the same order regarding Shravan Shivratri. Baba Ramdev on July 21 backed the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments,

Baba Ramdev “If Ramdev has no problem in revealing his identity, then why should Rahman have a problem in revealing his identity? Everyone should be proud of their name,” he told media persons in Haridwar. “There is no need to hide the name, only purity is required in work. If our work is pure, it does not matter if we are Hindu, Muslim, or from any other community...,”

Officers from the neighboring districts of Delhi were also invited and participated in this inter-departmental meeting. All preparations have been completed successfully, and we are confident that the festival of Shravan Shivratri will be conducted smoothly. All aspects, including security, cleanliness, and other necessary arrangements, were discussed in the inter-departmental meeting,"
