Vaccines Covishield and Covaxin Cleared For Market Approval by the panel of India's Central Drug Authority

The Pharmaceutical companies Serum Institute and Bharat Biotech which are the manufacturers of Covishield and Covaxin respectively had submitted applications to the Drugs Controller General of India seeking regular market authorisation for their vaccines. Today, an expert panel from the Drugs Controller General of India have given market approval to both the vaccines.

Till now, both of these vaccines were granted Emergency Use Authorisation. In addition to the successful completion of phase 2/3 clinical study in India, till now, over 100 crore doses of Covishield vaccine have been administered to people in this country and worldwide. These vaccines have been proved to be of significant importance in boosting the immunity of the general population.
