US Vice President Kamala Harris celebrated Diwali in Washington
According to reports, Diwali celebrations have started in the prestigious Times Square of New York in America. Apart from the Vice President of America, former President Donald Trump also celebrated Diwali at his residence.
US Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff celebrated Diwali at their residence in the capital, Washington, on Saturday. In a video posted on Twitter, Vice President Harris and Mr Emhoff can be seen enjoying the occasion of Diwali with sparklers in their hands, even as guests and visitors join in and celebrate Diwali, the Indian festival of lights.
Born to an Indian mother and Jamaican father, Kamala Harris is the first African-American and the first Asian-American vice-president of the US. According to reports, Diwali celebrations have started in the prestigious Times Square of New York in America. Apart from the Vice President of America, former President Donald Trump also celebrated Diwali at his residence.

It was announced on Thursday that from next year New York City will have a public school holiday on Diwali. Mayor Eric Adams said this would help highlight the totality of the city and encourage children to learn more about the festival of lights.
Indian-Americans, with a population of over 4.5 million, make up 1.4 percent of the US population and form the largest group of South Asians in the country. Diwali will be celebrated on 24 October this year. Although it is already being celebrated in India and around the world.
