Twitter Layoffs: Layoffs of employees started in India too, news of sacking of marketing-communication department

Twitter has started laying off employees in India. The new owner of the social media platform, Elon Musk, has ordered global layoffs to make the $44 billion acquisition of Twitter inevitable and save the company from the impact of the recession. Musk, the world's richest businessman, ousted the company's CEO Parag Agarwal and several other top executives last week after completing the acquisition of the micro-blogging site.

After this many people were also thrown out at the top management level. Musk has now begun a massive exercise to reduce the company's global workforce. Before Musk's acquisition of Twitter, there was talk that he would cut the number of employees at the social media company. In some reports, it has even been said that he will reduce the workforce by up to 75 percent.

A Twitter India employee told PTI on condition of anonymity, "The layoffs have started. Some of my colleagues have been informed about this through email. Another source said the layoffs have affected a "significant portion" of the Twitter team in India. Twitter India has not responded to email queries in this regard till the time of writing the news. According to media reports, the marketing and communication department of Twitter in India has been completely sacked.
