Treatment of liver diseases will start soon in Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital and Medical College
Apart from this, the Autonomous Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) affiliated to the Delhi Government provides treatment for liver diseases. For this patients have to pay expensive fees.
Patients suffering from liver related diseases will soon be able to get treatment facilities at Safdarjung Hospital and Vardhman Mahavir Medical College. Gastrology department is going to be started in the hospital and medical college. The hospital administration has completed preparations for the department. As soon as the approval is received from the Union Health Ministry, the way for starting the super specialty department will be cleared.
At present, there is a lack of super specialty facility for treatment of liver diseases in government hospitals. Only AIIMS, RML and GB Pant Hospital in Delhi have super specialty facilities for treatment of liver diseases. Apart from this, the Autonomous Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) affiliated to the Delhi Government provides treatment for liver diseases. For this patients have to pay expensive fees.
Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr. BL Sherwal said that it is necessary to have a gastrology department as per the guidelines of NMC (National Medical Commission). In view of this, the proposal to start the department has been sent to the ministry. On approval, seven super specialist faculty will be appointed. The super specialty course of Gastrology will start. After this, facilities for treatment of liver related diseases will be increased.
