Tomato costs expected to fall in Dec with devour in arrivals: Govt

The average retail worth of tomatoes can fall in December because the arrival of the common vegetable ingredient from north Indian states will begin from the start of future month, the govt. aforementioned on Friday. On Thursday, the average retail price of tomatoes was 67 per kilogram, 63% more than last year. The ministry highlighted the delayed arrivals of tomatoes from northern Indian states, followed by heavy rains in the south of the country that disrupted the supply chain and damaged crops.

"The average retail price of tomatoes in India has increased since late September 2021 due to unusual rains in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, which resulted in crop damage and delays in arrival from of these states, ”the ministry said. Adding that slight disruptions in the supply chain or damage from heavy rains cause prices to spike.
