Tibet Airlines plane skids off runway in China, 40 injured in fire
A passenger plane carrying 122 people on board China's Tibet Airlines suddenly caught fire. When the plane was taking off in the country's southwest city of Chongqing on Thursday.
At least 40 people were injured when a passenger plane skidded off the runway and caught fire during take-off at an airport in southwest China's Chongqing on Thursday.
According to Flight Radar24, a Tibet Airlines A319 was flying at the time. The runway was closed a minute after Flight Radar24 last tracked the plane.
According to state-run Xinhua news agency, 113 passengers and nine crew members were on board the plane bound for Tibet. All the occupants of the aircraft were evacuated safely and the injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The state-run China Global Television Network (CGTN) said the casualties were not immediately known.
Video footage posted by China Central Television (CCTV) showed flames and black smoke billowing from the fuselage of a Tibet Airlines plane at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post reported. People can be seen fleeing the plane after escaping through an evacuation slide at the back door.
