Tamil Nadu- Schools are shut in 18 districts today due to heavy rain
The skies over Chennai will stay cloudy for the next 48 hours as the IMD has predicted thunderstorms with moderate rainfall in some areas.
Since Sunday, most of the parts of Tamil Nadu have been getting light to heavy rain showers. Forcing the authorities to declare shutting of schools on Tuesday and Wednesday in various districts. Namakkal district administration announced one day holiday for the schools on Wednesday as incessant rains put a halt to daily functioning in the area. The Chennai district collector declared a holiday for schools. The 18 districts including Chengalpet, Kancheepuram, Thiruvalllur, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Ranipet, Trichy, Namakkal Cuddalore, Mayiladuthyrai, Ariyalur, and Vellore districts declare holiday for schools due to heavy rain, reported Times of India.
The schools in Chennai, Perambalur, Tiruvannamalai, Ariyalur, Kancheepuram were closed on Tuesday. The rain started on Monday evening and continued till Tuesday morning. Then Wednesday again the heavy showers began. According to IMD, thunderstorms with light to moderate rain are likely to continue in Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur districts of the state as well in the Puducherry and Karaikal regions.
