Supreme Court halts “Bulldozer-Drive” in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri, Demolition still continues

New Delhi: In Jahangirpuri, which came into the limelight after stone-pelting on the procession on Hanuman Jayanti, now the municipal team is taking action against illegal occupations. On Wednesday, as part of the two-day program to remove the encroachment, the team of the Municipal Corporation reached out to take action. During this several bulldozers took action and demolished illegal encroachments.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered status quo, stopping the demolition drive by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation in Northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri which was rocked by violence on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti. Although the Supreme Court has issued an order to maintain the status quo on this action, after which the action of the bulldozer has stopped and is still going on.

After hearing the petition in the Supreme Court, and an order to maintain the status quo in Jahangirpuri, one of the petitioners' leaders Brinda Karat has reached here. He stopped the action by standing in front of the bulldozer. Special CP Deependra Pathak informed about the order of the Supreme Court.

Brinda Karat has reached Jahangirpuri and she says that she has come to meet the officials with the order of the Supreme Court. She says that she has come here to stop the way the officers of the corporation are flouting the order of the Supreme Court. North Municipal Corporation Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh said that as soon as we get the order of the Supreme Court, we will stop the action.

To remove the encroachment, the corporation had brought many bulldozers, and many bulldozers have stopped the action after knowing about the order of the Supreme Court, while many bulldozers are still continuing the work. Officials say that they have not yet received any formal order, so the work of demolition of illegal constructions in the C-Block of Jahangirpuri is going on.
