Stargate: OpenAI & SoftBank Unveil $500B AI Data Center Network in US, Thousands of Jobs Expected

Stargate: President Donald Trump is set to announce the private sector investment of up to $500 Billion for AI infrastructure, Reuters reported.

OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle intend to jointly establish a partnership named Stargate, starting with an initial commitment of $100 billion, which would then scale up to $500 billion over the next four years, according to media reports.

SoftBank C.E.O. Masayoshi Son; OpenAI, Sam Altman; and Larry Ellison of Oracle have all appeared to be due in Washington on Tuesday, according to the report. CBS it originally first reported that news of this about announcement.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told Trump “we wouldn’t be able to do this without you, Mr. President” and added that the initiative could “create hundreds of thousands of jobs” in America. 

“We will see diseases get cured at an unprecedented rate. We will be amazed at how quickly we’re curing this cancer and that one — and heart disease,” added Altman, repeating that AI would “cure the diseases at a rapid, rapid rate.”

“Little fragments of those [cancer] tumors float around in your blood. So you can do early cancer detection. If you can do it using AI, you can do early cancer detection with a blood test and using AI to look at the blood test,” Ellison said.

“Once we gene sequence that cancer tumor, you can then vaccinate the person —design a vaccine for every individual person that vaccinates them against that cancer. That mRNA vaccine , you can make that robotically, again using AI, in about 48 hours.”

In the CBS report, SoftBank President, Masayoshi Son, OpenAI's Sam Altman, and Oracle's Larry Ellison deal to appear at the White House on Tuesday.

Oracle shares went up 6%, as did Nvidia, Arm Holdings and Dell stocks.

The Information, technology news site, claims, in a piece published in March 2024, that OpenAI and Microsoft are on a $100 billion data center project to include an AI supercomputer-cum-Stargate set to debut around 2028.

Ever since OpenAI unveiled ChatGPT in 2022, there have been massive investments into AI, as a mad rush descends on companies of almost every industry to integrate AI into their products.
