SII : Now each dose of Covovax jab reduced from Rs 900 to Rs 225
The DGCI had on December 28 last year approved the emergency use of Covovax vaccine in adults and on March 9 last year for children aged 12 to 17 years, with certain conditions.
The Serum Institute of India (SII) reduced the cost of each dose of Covovax from Rs 900 to Rs 225. The price cut comes after Kovovax was included on the Covin portal for immunization of children in the age group of 12 to 17 years at private immunization centres. It does not include tax.
Expressing happiness, Adar Poonawalla, CEO, Serum Institute of India, tweeted on Tuesday that Covovax vaccine has been made available for children across the country. This vaccine has been developed by the American company Novavax, which makes the serum. Poonawalla said that this is the only vaccine that is made in India and also sold in Europe. It has been found to be more than 90 percent effective.
The government has approved another corona vaccine 'Covovax' for children aged 12 to 17 years. India's drug regulator had on December 28 last year approved Covovax for restricted use in emergency situations in adults. At the same time, Bharat Biotech's Covaxin is being given free of cost to children in the age group of 15-18 years at government immunization centers. It is to be noted that the cost of a single dose of Covaxin at private centers is Rs 386 including GST, while the cost of Corbevax is Rs 990.
