Shreyas Iyer Reacts After Asia Cup 2025 Snub; BCCI Responds To Agarkar Backlash
Interestingly Santosh Iyer, the father of the batsman, questioned the board and asked what his son needs to do more to get back into India T20I team.
Shreyas Iyer Reacts After Asia Cup 2025 Snub: The debate over omission of Shreyas Iyer in the Asia Cup squad, announced on Tuesday, is not getting over. Iyer was not a part of the 15 and not being placed in the reserves also angered fans and ex-cricketers. Although fans protested about the choice made by BCCI, the blow up of the former assistant coach of India Abhishek Nayar where he allegedly sent out silver bullets into BCCI chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar in his wake-up move, took the debate a notch higher. Nayar wondered why that was the case when Iyer is such a good player, how could he not have been among the five standby players?

The father, Santosh, has not been tentative in declaring his opinions on the same, but there is no ready public response that has gained momentum as yet by Shreyas. The frustrations of Iyer Senior were empathetic noting the kind of form that his son has been in. Iyer has not even featured in the previous T20I squad of India, those three games against England earlier this year in February. Iyer hasn t played a T20I in the India colours since 2023 against Australia, but much has changed since.
"I don’t know what else Shreyas has to do to make it to the Indian T20 team. He has been performing so well in the IPL year after year, from Delhi Capitals to Kolkata Knight Riders to now Punjab Kings, and that too as a captain. He even captained KKR to the IPL title in 2024, and led PBKS to the final this year. I am not saying make him the captain, but at least select him in the team," he told The Times of India.
Presented with the above omission by Iyer, Agarkar spoke in Tongues as far as he was concerned. How do they fit in son Shreyas? Indian batting order in T20s is deep and with the appointment of Shubman Gill vice-captain, an in-form Sanju Samson is struggling to make it to the Playing XI; how can Iyer have a chance?

Santosh Iyer is not mistaken, know:
Everything that Santosh Iyer points out is full of facts. To top it, Iyer also became the captain of Mumbai team that reached to the final of the last Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where again he was the leader of the pack, scoring 345 runs in nine matches, which made him the fourth-best run getter of the season. Outside this, the 604 runs that he scored in taking the PBKS to the final of IPL 2025, further confirms his quality as a T20 batsman.
News that Iyer will become India opens new lid ODI captain at the required time were, therefore, received with much surprise earlier today. Do they have a player currently outside of India s scheme of things in Tests or T20I to take the baton off Rohit? However, regardless of what the future holds in store with Shreyas, and the number of disappointments that the 30-year-old has to face, Santosh Iyer again asserted that nothing can make his son lose confidence.
"However, let me tell you that even if he’s left out of the Indian team, he doesn’t show dissent on his face. He’ll just say ‘It’s my luck. You can’t do anything now’. He’s always cool and calm. He doesn’t blame anybody. Deep inside, he must be naturally disappointed," added Shreyas’ father.
