Shatrughan Sinha will be TMC candidate in Asansol Lok Sabha
Famous film star and former BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha will be the candidate of Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the by-election to be held in Asansol Lok Sabha seat of Bengal. At the same time, former Union Minister Babul Supriyo, who recently joined Trinamool leaving BJP, will be the candidate of Trinamool Congress in the by-election to be held in Kolkata's Ballygunge assembly seat.
Famous film star and former BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha will be the candidate of Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the by-election to be held in Asansol Lok Sabha seat of Bengal. At the same time, former Union Minister Babul Supriyo, who recently joined Trinamool leaving BJP, will be the candidate of Trinamool Congress in the by-election to be held in Kolkata's Ballygunge assembly seat. Trinamool Congress supremo and Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday announced to make both the leaders candidates from these seats.
Bypolls to Bengal's Asansol parliamentary seat and Ballygunge assembly seat will be held on April 12, while the results will be declared on April 16. After the completion of assembly elections in five states, the Election Commission has announced the date of by-elections on Saturday, a day before. Last year, Babul Supriyo had resigned from his Lok Sabha seat Asansol after joining the Trinamool Congress. Now after his resignation, Mamta has made Shatrughan Sinha a candidate in the by-election going to be held on the vacant seat.
Babul Supriyo was elected MP on BJP ticket from Asansol Lok Sabha seat for two consecutive terms in the year 2014 and 2019. In 2019, Babul Supriyo defeated TMC candidate Moon Moon Sen by 1,97,637 votes. After the results of the assembly elections in West Bengal last year, many top BJP leaders resigned from the party. At the same time, after being removed from the Union Cabinet, Babul Supriyo had also joined the Trinamool Congress and later he also resigned from the post of MP.
