The NCP on Saturday asked the anti-BJP parties to come together ahead of the assembly elections to be held in several states of the country. The party said that party chief Sharad Pawar will play an important role in this regard. Addressing the expanded working committee of the NCP, Pawar alleged that the Modi government is anti-farmer and has also failed to tackle the issue of unemployment. He also slammed the BJP over the release of the convicts in the Bilkis Bano gangrape case.
Sharad Pawar said that I am surprised that the Prime Minister talks about upholding the dignity of women and two days later the BJP government in the Prime Minister's home state reduced the punishment for those who committed atrocities against Bilkis Bano and his family.
Meanwhile, the Extended Working Committee of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) also re-elected Pawar as the party's national president. Pawar said farmers were hoping to get a good price for their paddy crop, but the government imposed a 20 per cent export duty on rice and banned the export of broken rice.
Pawar said that the country is in deep pain and we have to raise these issues vigorously at every platform. A draft political resolution tabled during the meeting called for unity of like-minded parties to fight against the BJP and its allies.
