Pakistan's newly-appointed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday thanked his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi for congratulating him. He also said that his country wants peaceful and cooperative relations with India. Shahbaz Sharif, however, emphasized that peaceful resolution of pending disputes, including those of Jammu and Kashmir, is very important.
Responding to PM Modi's congratulatory message, Sharif tweeted, "Pakistan seeks peaceful and cooperative relations with India. Peaceful resolution of pending disputes including Jammu and Kashmir is very important. Everyone knows the sacrifice of Pakistan in fighting terrorism. Let us ensure peace and focus on the socio-economic development of our people.
Prime Minister Modi on Monday congratulated 70-year-old Shahbaz Sharif on being elected as the Prime Minister of Pakistan and said that India wants peace and stability in the region which is free from terrorism so that we can focus on our development challenges and the well being and welfare of our people.
