Sex, Extortion and Murder: South West Delhi Police solved the mystery of an unidentified dead body

A highly professional and dedicated approach by the police team of the South West district led to cracking a mystery of an unidentified dumped body within 40 hours.

On January 29, 2022, information regarding the dumping of an unknown dead body of a youngster was received at Sarojini Nagar police station. The dead body was not having any ID proof with him.

By making sincere efforts the team identified the deceased as 22-year-old Shamsher Khan @ Ali, resident of Kodarma, Jharkhand. He wasworking at the shop of one Prembir @ Premi, a resident of Uttam Nagar, which was situated in Sarojini Nagar Market.

“Sensing the gravity of the crime, a team under the supervision of VKPS Yadav, ACP of Safdarjung Enclave was constituted. The team was headed by Inspector Devender Kaushik, who is also SHO of Sarojini Nagar police station, and other members were Inspector Vineet Malik, Assistant Sub Inspector Praveen, Assistant Sub Inspector Rajesh and Constable Sandeep,” Gaurav Sharma, DCP, South-West District, New Delhi, said.

He added, “During the investigation, it was revealed to the team that the deceased had a homosexual relationship with his shop owner Prembir and had secretly recorded his videos while doing the illicit act.”

He was blackmailing the shop owner and extorting money by threatening to make the video viral. During the investigation, on the basis of technical surveillance, both deceased and Premi were found to be present at Sarojini Nagar Metro Station i.e. near the place where the body was dumped.

On the basis of CCTV footage deceased was last seen alive with his shop owner Prembir. Prembir was examined and he revealed that in order to execute the plan he contacted his nephew Pavinder, resident of village Bagdai, Khurja, UP and called him to Delhi.

Pavinder along with his friend Rohit came to Delhi in the evening of January 28, by booking a taxi from Khurja. They booked two rooms in “Smart Inn” guest house at Yusuf Sarai, Safdarjung Enclave and given Voter ID card as their IDs and entry of the same was found in the guest house register.

CCTV Cameras of the guest house were analysed and Pavinder & Rohit were seen carrying trolly bag into guest house. They stayed there in one of the rooms while Prembir went to Sarojini Nagar market to take deceased Shamsher Khan.

At about 8.30 PM, Prembir along with Shamsher Khan @ Ali reached the guest house, as seen in footage captured in CCTV camera. Pavinder and his friend cut the nylon rope from the guest house balcony area which was used for drying clothes.

After 5-10 minutes, all of them overpowered the deceased and Pavinder strangulated him with the nylon rope and later Rohit used his muffler to strangulate him. They put the dead body in a big sized trolley bag and when the body was not fitting in the suitcase they removed his shoes and jacket.

After keeping the body in trolley bag, loaded it in the same taxi hired from Khurja by Pavinder and took the taxi towards Sarojini Nagar market side and dumped the body in a secluded place near Sarojini Nagar Metro Station. They covered it with a plastic sheet.

Accused Prembir took away shoes, jacket, cap and purse of deceased in his personal bag and throw these articles near Uttam Nagar East Metro Station, thereafter, he reached home as per his routine.

Pavinder took away mobile phone and empty suitcase to his native place Khurja. At the instance of alleged Prembir, cap of the deceased has been recovered from a nala side, Pankha Road, Uttam Nagar and efforts are being made to recover remaining articles.

His purse along with other documents were burnt at the house by Prembir and flushed in bathroom.

Investigation team, conducted raids at Khurja, Bulandsahar and accused Pavinder and Rohit, both 21, resident of Bagarai Kalan, Khurja, Bulandshahar, UP have been nabbed.

The Wagon-R car used to transport the deceased body and accused persons, mobile phone of deceased, trolley Bag in which dead body was packed and taken from hotel have also been recovered.

DCP Sharma informed, “Accused persons disclosed that they had made plan to kill the victim in a clandestine way on 19th January but deferred their plan after seeing heavy deployment of police and executed it in intervening night of 28 and 29 January.”

Taxi driver Ajay, resident of Pahargali, Khurja, UP, age 24 years, has also joined the investigation, but the accused persons mislead him by saying that they are carrying clothes in the trolley bag.

Accused Prembir is 36 years old, having two kids i.e. son 13 yrs and daughter 11 yrs. He got married 14 years back and at present is running a cloth shop in Sarojini Nagar Market and didn’t have any previous involvement in crime.

“Accused Pavinder is having a course from ITI and also doing his graduation side by side didn’t have any previous involvement. Accused Rohit works as a casual painter and didn’t have any previous involvement. Further investigation of the case is in progress,” DCP Sharma said.
