The newspaper published a report on Serena’s venture capital firm however instead of publishing her picture, they published her sister Venus' picture with the article.
Social media highlighted the mistake and some people mocked it too on Twitter. Serena herself took to Twitter and raised the issue tagging the newspaper.
She wrote, “No matter how far we come, we get reminded that it's not enough. This is why I raised $111M for @serenaventures. To support the founders who are overlooked by engrained systems woefully unaware of their biases. Because even I am overlooked. You can do better, @nytimes."
She also posted the photo of the news report about her venture capital firm that featured a photo of Venus with her comments.
The New York Times said in its report that 40-year-old has recently launched an early-stage venture capital firm which she has named after her, Serena Ventures. In the initial phase of raising money, she has collected $111 million.
After her loss in the first round of Wimbledon, she has been missing in action on the ground. She had even said that she was not fit to play Australian Open and opted out of it.
She said in a statement, "While this is never an easy decision to make, I am not where I need to be physically to compete."
