When Biden said this during the ceremony, there was thunderous applause. More than 200 guests attended the ceremony, including Indian-Americans and several members of the Biden administration. Highlighting the achievements of the diaspora Indian community, he said, “It is quite surprising and an unprecedented milestone for Sunak of the Conservative Party to become Prime Minister. It matters a lot.” Biden made history in 2020 by electing Indian-origin Kamala Harris as the Vice President.Kamla Harris is now the Vice President of the United States and the second most powerful person in the country after Biden.
She was the first person of Indian origin to be elected to the post. Biden thanked Indian Americans for making Diwali a part of American culture, saying, "Diwali marks the opening of homes and hearts, exchanging gifts and sweets, hosting feasts for family and friends, and cultural Organizing events brings us together, you contribute to every part of the life of the American person."
