Rishabh Pant ready to lead Delhi Capitals to IPL 2021
Shreyas Iyer who has led the franchise of Delhi Capitals since 2018 season said, “When I sustained the shoulder injury, and Delhi Capitals needed a leader for this edition of the IPL, I had no doubt that Rishabh (Pant) would be the best man for the job.”
On Tuesday, IPL team Delhi Capitals announced its decision to go ahead with Rishabh Pant leading the team to the upcoming season of Indian Premier League. The decision comes following Delhi Capitals’ regular skipper, Shreyas Iyer dislocating his left shoulder while fielding during the 1st ODI against England.
Ricky Ponting, head coach of Delhi Capitals in a press release said, “This is a tremendous opportunity for young Rishabh, who is coming off successful stints against Australia and England which will no doubt give him the confidence needed to take on a new role.”
The news took social media by storm, Rishabh Pant fans were delighted by the promotion of Pant from his Vice-captain position. Congratulatory posts came Pant’s way from many cricketers such as Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh among many others.
Harbhajan in his signature cheeky sense tweeted, “Wah captaaaaan Rishabh Pant mubarkaa chotte.’

The upcoming season of Indian Premier League is highly anticipated by cricketing fans. The IPL auction saw some interesting player buying, which also involved slight shuffling of players across teams. The appointment of a young new captain will only add excitement to the game and hopefully provide some refreshing cricket.
