Reception of interreligion couple canceled in Shraddha Walkar's hometown, local organizations protested

The reception of a newly wed Hindu-Muslim couple was canceled in Maharashtra's Vasai city following protests by local organizations in the wake of Shraddha Walkar's murder. The police gave this information on Saturday.
27-year-old Walkar was brutally murdered in May this year. Her live-in partner Aftab Poonawalla has been arrested on charges of murder. Walkar was a resident of Vasai in Palghar district near Mumbai.A local police official told PTI that the wedding reception of the newly married Hindu-Muslim couple was to be held at an auditorium in Vasai West area on Sunday evening. The police officer said that after the editor's tweet went viral, local Hindu and Muslim organizations in Vasai called up the owner of the hall and asked him to cancel the event for the sake of peace in the area.
On Friday morning, a news channel editor tweeted a picture of the reception invitation on Friday and linked it to the Walker murder, using the hashtags 'love jihad' and 'act op terrorism'. A local police officer said that the program was to be held on Sunday evening at a hall in Vasai's west area. After the tweet went viral, local Hindu and Muslim organizations in Vasai called up the owner of the hall and asked him to cancel the event to maintain peace in the area, the official said.
