Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the Congress General Secretary on October 7 demanded a probe by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court or a high court in Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. She further added that the Union Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra, whose son is among those booked, should resign to ensure that the investigation is impartial. This comes after the accused caused death of the protesting farmers by riding a vehicle over them.
Ms. Vadra, who met the families of the three of the eight victims killed in the violence, stated to the reporters in Lucknow that, “In my view and that of the victims’ families as well, the case should be probed by a sitting Supreme Court or high court judge, and not the retired judge.” This comes after The Uttar Pradesh government's constitution of a one-member commission of retired high court judge Pradeep Kumar Srivastava to probe the violence. The deadly violence took place during a farmers’ protest rally that took eight lives.
