Prime Minister Modi said – India has met the target of 10 percent ethanol blending in petrol
Making the announcement at the event, Modi cited several measures taken by his government to protect the environment, saying that despite being one in the country, its efforts have been multi-faceted.
Making the announcement at an event on 'Save Soil Andolan' on the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced that India has achieved the target of 10 per cent ethanol blending in petrol, five months ahead of the deadline.
Ethanol blending in petrol has increased from 2 per cent in 2014 to 10 per cent now, thereby reducing carbon emissions by 2.7 million tonnes and saving Rs 41,000 crore of foreign exchange reserves. He said that farmers have also got an income of Rs 40,000 crore from this. India has achieved the target of achieving 40 per cent of its installed electricity generation from non-fossil fuel based sources nine years ahead of the deadline.
The Union Minister further said, 'Electric is the future along with alternative fuels like ethanol and methanol. I remember, 3 years ago when I used to talk about e-vehicles people used to question me. But now look, there is a lot of demand for e-vehicles. People are waiting for it. After electric scooters, cars and buses, we will soon have electric tractors and trucks. I am going to launch them soon.
