Police commissioner system will be implemented in Bhopal and Indore on the lines of Mumbai. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has made this announcement, although talk about this system was going on for the last 10 years. The government had announced to implement this earlier also, but after the opposition of the IAS lobby, the government had to come on the back foot. At present the Superintendent of Police has to work under the Collector in the administrative setup. The IAS lobby was an advocate of maintaining its importance.
CM Shivraj said that with the implementation of Police Commissioner system, the law and order situation in the state will be stronger. Explain that the police commissioner system is considered better for cracking down on crimes. This system is applicable in most of the metropolitan cities. The advantage of this would be that the police would have more powers and an effective mechanism to control crime.
