Pokhran blast was done on this day, PM Modi reminded of this day
Many countries imposed restrictions, but India continued to move forward on its path of development. It's been 24 years today.
The date of 11 May is recorded in history towards making India nuclear power. In 1998, the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government had given permission to conduct nuclear tests in the Pokhran range on this day itself. As soon as India conducted this test, the whole world was stunned.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that on National Technology Day, our nation salutes all those who are taking advantage of technology to make a positive difference in the lives of others. We remember the extraordinary achievement of our scientists on this day in 1998. This was a historic moment in the history of India. Also remembered the leadership of former Prime Minister Atal Vihari Vajpayee.
The first nuclear test took place in 1974 during the tenure of Indira Gandhi. Then during the tenure of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, the second nuclear test took place in Pokhran on 11 and 13 May 1998. The blasts in the Pokhran Field Firing Range, located 110 km from the Jaisalmer district headquarters of Rajasthan, put India in the category of nuclear-armed countries.
