PFI Ban : BJP raised questions on TMC's silence
Senior Trinamool Congress leader and MP Saugata Roy said, "We do not want to comment on this. It is our official stand that we will not comment on it." Reacting to TMC's silence, the West Bengal unit of BJP asked why the ruling party in Bengal always prefers to keep silence on issues related to national security.
Popular Front of India (PFI) has been banned in India for five years. The reaction of many party leaders came to the fore regarding this. Speaking about PAI, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav attacked the RSS fiercely. Lalu Yadav said that RSS should be banned first. At the same time, Trinamool Congress (TMC) refrained from commenting on the matter.
With TMC refraining from commenting on the PFA ban, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) questioned its silence on issues related to national security. The central government on Wednesday announced a five-year ban on the PFI and several of its affiliates under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) alleging links with global terrorist groups like ISIS.
BJP's state unit spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya said, "The BJP government has a zero-tolerance policy on issues of terrorism and national security, but what is surprising us the most is that PFI in West Bengal too. The state government is silent on the matter despite the activities of the TMC. However, TMC has a record of keeping silence on issues related to national security. Votes matter most to them."
Significantly, apart from PFI, the government has also banned affiliated organizations like RIF, CFI, AIIC, NCHRO, National Women Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala.
